Causeway Bay Hong Kong shopping district - vibrant street scene with shoppers, neon signs, and modern buildings

Causeway Bay Events - January 2027

January is Causeway Bay at its most comfortable. Hong Kong's cool, dry season is in full swing — expect roughly 14–20°C, low humidity and plenty of clear sky, which makes this the best month of the year to walk the district rather than ride between its malls. The month has two distinct moods: the calm, sale-driven first fortnight, then a sharp turn in the last few days as Chinese New Year approaches and Victoria Park becomes a flower market.

Everything below is a confirmed 2027 date unless the entry says otherwise. Where an event is an annual fixture whose 2027 date is not yet published, we say so plainly rather than guess.

🎉 Festival & Seasonal

New Year's Day

📅 Friday, January 1, 2027 — public holiday

Hong Kong opens the year with a public holiday and the traditional January sales. Causeway Bay's malls are open but on relaxed holiday hours, so expect the heavy shopping traffic to arrive over the following weekend rather than on the day itself.

📍 Location: Hong Kong-wide; Causeway Bay malls

💵 Price: Free to be out and about; shopping at your own pace

Hong Kong Island's largest Lunar New Year flower market takes over the hard courts and walkways of Victoria Park for its final seven days. This is where the city buys peach blossom, orchids, kumquat trees and New Year decorations; the first evening is busy but nowhere near as packed as the last two nights.

📍 Location: Victoria Park, Causeway Bay

💵 Price: Free entry

Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2027

📅 Sunday, January 17, 2027 — first wave from 05:40

The marathon finishes at Victoria Park for 2027, which puts the loudest part of the race almost on Causeway Bay's doorstep. The closing kilometres run through the district before the runners turn into the park, so the pavements along the final stretch are a good, free place to watch — bring a jacket for the early start.

📍 Location: Finish: Victoria Park, Causeway Bay — start: Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui

💵 Price: Free to watch

🧭 Practical Notes

Getting there and getting around

The MTR Island Line runs straight through the district — Causeway Bay station for Times Square and SOGO, Tin Hau station (Exit A) for Victoria Park. For AsiaWorld-Expo, take the Airport Express or Tung Chung Line to AsiaWorld-Expo station.

Marathon day, January 17

Expect rolling road closures along the route through the morning, and heavy crowds around the Victoria Park finish from about 07:00 to 11:00. Use the MTR rather than taxis if you are crossing town.

Chinese New Year fair — go early in the week

The Victoria Park fair opens on January 31 and is calmest on a weekday afternoon. The final two nights, into February 6, are the busiest days of the whole event; if you only want to look rather than queue, go before the last weekend.

Booking ahead and free alternatives

The month's arena concerts and the Arts Festival performances are the things most likely to sell out — book as soon as you have dates. Free alternatives that need no booking: Victoria Park itself, the Causeway Bay harbourfront, and the district's MTR-linked malls.

FOOD AND DINING

While often visited for the Shopping the visitor should not forget that Causeway Bay encompasses a wide range of dining options, from the casual to the sophisticated. Within area are examples of many of Hong Kong's most authentic and distinctive styles, as well as international choices to fit all palates and budgets.
